2006 Disabilities Trust Charity Carp Trophy 31st March - 2nd April Wintons Fishery West Sussex

Last years competetors with organisers Andy Rye Gemma Travell and Celebrity Football pundit Jimmy Hill

Wintons Fishery in West Sussex have once again opened their fantastic fishery to the 2006 Disabilities Trust Carp Trophy. Last years competiton was a real success not only for the incredible amount of money that was raised for the Trust but for the spirit within the anglers and the numerous personal bests that were achieved, during the 48 hour competiton.
The 2006 competiton will be an even bigger event as we have been granted permission to run 3 competitions on each of the lakes. Mallard will once again host the 48 hour team competiton. Kingfisher will host the specimen trophy, and Heron will host a carp and catfish challenge.

Wintons Fishery is one of the most beautiful and highly productive carp fisheries in the South of England. Set at the base of the South Downs the fishery boasts three stunning waters to meet everyones needs.
Kingfisher is a small deep water, which has a rich ecosystem, with lilly pads around its margains and over two sunken islands. The water also has 2 islands that divide the water into two areas, ideal for the competition. The fish population is awesome with 6 different 40's, plenty of good 30's and high twenties. There are also a couple of grass carp and some absolutely stunning koi carp, that go to over 30lbs. 6 Anglers will fish Kingfisher to land the highest weight of carp within the 48 hour fishing period. Pegs. 21, 23, 24, 26, 30 and 31 will be used for the competition to maximise the fishery and to give everyone a fair chance of catching well. As with all the lakes a draw will be made at the start of the comp to determine where each angler will fish for the duration of the competition.
Mallard is a larger water again with two large islands in the center of the water. It holds a tremendous stock of big carp to over 40lb and cats to over 60lb. This water will host the pairs comp. Teams of two anglers will fish in pairs of swims to catch the largest combined weight of carp and cats. Teams will draw pegs as follows. Pegs 1 and 3, 7 and 8, 11 and 12, 14 and 15, The Double swim, and 18 and 20.
Heron will host a singles carp and catfish comp with 12 anglers spread evenly over this highly productive water. Loads of good 20,s and massive cats will keep everyone busy. The multitude of islands make this water ideal for a comp, it will give everyone a good feature to fish around.

Gemma and Andy set up a marquee where they cooked food for anglers and spectators, and held raffles and an auction of fishing goods. They even managed to "hook" Jimmy Hill into presenting the trophies to the winning pair, Colin Maynard and Neil Young.
The event was a great success and raised £1725 for the Trust.
